Chopping an onion can be tricky at first but gets easier with practice. Start by slicing off the top, then cut the onion in half from top to bottom. Peel off the skin, and lay each half flat on the cutting board. Make horizontal cuts toward the root, then vertical slices. Finally, chop crosswise to dice.
